It’s good to know that the UN recognise the importance of happiness. Is there any person on the planet who doesn’t want to be happy/happier? Is there anyone who doesn’t deserve to feel happy?
So, what can we do to make sure that all our days are filled with happiness? Is that too ambitious a wish?
Well, if you acquaint yourself with the science of Positive Psychology you might start to feel quite happy straight away! It seems that happiness is not what something that happens to us, but a choice that we make. The things that we traditionally thought would bring us happiness – money, fame, good looks etc. turn out to have very little influence on our happiness levels.
When we turn our attention to things that bring us positive emotions, such as peace, gratitude, satisfaction, pleasure, inspiration, hope, curiosity, or (best of all) LOVE ….
When we engage ourselves in activities that require our attention and put us into a ‘flow’ experience ….
When we invest in our relationships with other people, friends, family and colleagues ….
When we make a worthwhile contribution to society and make a positive difference to others ….
When we achieve our goals and succeed in something, no matter how small ….
These are the activities that truly make us feel that we are living our ‘best’ life and the wonderful thing is that EVERYONE can CHOOSE to do any of these things, right now, TODAY.
So, why not CHOOSE to be happy today and enjoy what you already have in your life. If you like how that feels, you might choose to experience a Day of Happiness everyday !
